The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an esteemed scholarship programme aimed at encouraging students to pursue science education and research. Run by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, the KVPY scheme is offered to promising students who aspire to excel in research fields such as basic sciences.

The KVPY scheme is open to students studying in XI standard as well as those who are in their first year of any undergraduate course in Science subjects like B.Sc., BE/B.Tech., or any equivalent course in any recognised university or institution. The primary focus of the KVPY scheme is to create lifelong research scientists by awarding merit-based fellowships. This encourages students to pursue a career in research science and provides the necessary financial assistance in developing their research interests.

The KVPY examination is held at three levels: SA, SX, and SB. The SA level is for students of class XI, the SX level for those studying in the first year of an undergraduate course and the SB level for those in the second year of an undergraduate course. The examination format is objective-type, with multiple-choice questions in English.

The KVPY fellowship will be awarded on the basis of the marks obtained in the KVPY examination. The grant is sometimes divided into two categories, the TM (Top Merit) and BM (Below Merit) category. Depending on qualifications, students belonging to the TM category are eligible for Rs. 5,000 per month during their undergraduate years, while BM qualified candidates can avail of Rs. 4,000 per month. The students may also receive a one-time grant of Rs. 20,000 for pursuing a research field once they complete their undergraduate education.

Apart from the financial assistance, the KVPY also offers mentorship opportunities to the fellows. Here, experts from the relevant fields will guide and provide assistance to the fellows, to help them further develop their research. This is highly beneficial for their scientific career and for the advancement of science in India.

All in all, the KVPY scheme is an excellent opportunity for students studying in India, as it assists them to pursue their research and also acknowledge their hard work and dedication towards the same.
