The state of Assam is governed by a multi-party system, in which the Governor is the constitutional head of the state. The Governor appoints the Chief Minister and his/her Council of Ministers, which constitutes the Council of Ministers. The Council of Ministers is responsible for allocating the various portfolios amongst its members and the Chief Minister heads the Council of Ministers. Brief Overview of Assam’s Government
The government of Assam is a multi-party system, in which the Governor is the constitutional head of the state. The Ministry for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (PP&P) and the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG) are headed by the Cabinet Minister of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal. He is responsible for administrative reforms, simplification and ease of doing business in the state.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is headed by Himanta Biswa Sarma. He is responsible for maintaining law and order in the state and also for implementing various welfare and development schemes.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is headed by Shri Kumar Sanjay Krishna. He is responsible for formulating policy, guiding and coordinating activities in the areas of public health and medical care in the state. He is also the nodal officer for the Indigenous people living in Assam.
The Ministry of Education & Skill Development is headed by Shri Siddhartha Bhattacharya. He is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of educational policies and programmes in Assam, as well as for ensuring the quality of school and higher education.
The Ministry of Finance & Planning is headed by Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma. He is responsible for the formulation, coordination and implementation of all financial and economic policies in the state.
The Ministry of Environment & Forests is headed by Shri Parimal Suklabaidya. He is responsible for the conservation and management of forests, environment and wildlife in the state.
The Ministry of Industries & Commerce is headed by Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary. He is responsible for formulating industry-friendly policies and helping nurture, develop and expand the industrial base of the state.
The Ministry of Agriculture & Veterinary Science is headed by Shri Atul Bora. He is responsible for the agricultural and veterinary development of the state.
The Ministry of Transport is headed by Shri Chandra Kumar Bose. He is responsible for formulating and implementing policies for the development and smooth functioning of the transport sector of the state.
The Ministry of Social Welfare, Empowerment & Tribal Affairs is headed by Shri Pijush Hazarika. He is responsible for formulating policies and programmes for the welfare of the people from the Schedule Tribes and Other Traditional Communities.
The Ministry of Tourism is headed by Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary. He is responsible for the promotion and development of tourism in Assam.
